From easy cycling paths to challenging alpine trails
Take a gentle ride along the river or try the more strenuous version – around Winkler cyclists and mountainbikers won’t be able to say no to a two-wheeled adventure. The Pustertaler cyle path is one of the most scenic in South Tyrol and gently winds its way along the Rienz river through woods and fields. It is also a nice family day out as there are no notable climbs and the cyle path is all tarmacced. There are over 300 km of cycle routes which lead from Lienz in East Tirol to Ahrntal, Antholzertal and to Gsieser Tal. Thirty bike rental shops, the Mobil Card (a ticket which can be used on trains, buses and for bike hire), and bike taxis will help you to plan your own bike trip. There are plenty of villages and towns along the cycle path as well as 13 adventure stations that make for a great day out. More experienced mountain bikers will prefer the breezy trails at higher altitudes, where they will encounter sunny mountain hut terraces, spectacular views and the almost touchable Dolomites.
